MAXIMIZE WHAT YOU HAVE

This week has been a very interesting week because all of the coaching calls and mentoring sessions that I have had revolved around one thing “maximizing what you have.” As I help my clients recognize that it’s all in their hands, I begin to see that very same thing in other areas of my life. Everything that you and I need in this life is available to us, the question is have we maximized what we have before wanting to move to the next level?

What is that thing you think you need to accomplish what you want? Have you paid attention to what is actually in your hand that may give you the same results? Many people often fall into what I call the “I need syndrome” because it is easier to blame their ineffectiveness on the lack of tools, products, personnel or finances.

Here are 5 Simple Principles to help you stay productive while maximizing what you have.

I. Start with the end in mind. Always see yourself at the finish line completing what you started. People who quit during the process will never inherit the promise of the prize.

II. Observe what you have in your hands first. Never look at what you don’t have without maximizing what you do have first. Everything has its purpose in your life, but it is up to you to actually use it effectively.

III. Make use of available resources. Recognize that there are tools in place to help you achieve that which you set out to accomplish. Remember that there is nothing new under the sun so we don’t have to reinvent the wheel.

IV. Appreciate the process. Everything that you go through in life makes you who you are today. Learn to embrace the process and appreciate the outcome.

V. Expect the best outcome. Good is not good enough when excellent is available. Always aim for the stars because the sky is the limit. Dare to dream and your dreams will cause you to dare to live.

Application of these five simple principles in your life will cause you to be productive and effective in every area. Nothing can stop you when you are driven by your passion to accomplish your desires, hopes, and dreams. What do you have in your hand and how will you maximize your productivity.

LIVE TO PRODUCE TODAY!!!

Today, when I woke up my heart was energized and sorrowful at the same time because I learned of the death of two great men late last night. Rev. Fred L. Shuttlesworth a Civil Rights Icon, and Co-Founder of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference and Steve Jobs, the innovative, vision minded and bold Co-Founder of Apple, home of the iPhone, iPod and iPad and other innovative products.

As I read Tweets and Facebook post honoring these legendary Icons coming home from church last night, I was motivated and energized. Immediately, I begin to examine my life, leadership, loyalty, and legacy. The questions of am I “Mr. Productivity” being productive enough? How am I affecting the lives of others? What am I doing to help those around me to develop and effectively “Live to Produce?” Does my walk match my talk? These are just a few questions that begin racing through my head. I often say “ You are not living unless you are living to produce.” These great men were agents of change effectively living to produce in the earth. Are we making or wasting time? Time waits for no one, and life is too short to live in limbo. Rev. Shuttlesworth was 89 and some would say that he lived a long life, but I would dare to say that 89 is far from the 120 years that the Bible says that we could live. That is 31 years shy of the promise given to man! Steve Jobs was 56 and that is only the second quarter of life according to the biblical principle of life.

These two men have left a great blueprint and example for us to follow. They discovered what their passion and maximized it by utilizing the Law of Productivity. According to Gen 1:28, And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth. These great men left their mark on the world by living to produce and staying in the arena of working in their passion.

My life is all about building healthy relationships, making meaningful connections, and leaving a legacy for the future that my family and the world could benefit from. In essence, my life is all about living to produce.

Every day is a great day to enjoy... Never think that it’s just another day because it is not promised. Enjoy the day by springing up and into your potential/purpose. Live life on purpose and by design. ~ Dr. Vernet Joseph

Every morning when you wake up ask yourself will I react or respond to the test, trials, and temptations in life? When you react you reveal that you weren't prepared, but when you respond it shows that you have been diligent in being a student of productivity. ~ Dr. V.A. Joseph

The death of these two pioneers has truly sent a sound blast heard around the world. It has rocked, sorrowed, motivated, and even inspired many to start living to produce. It is my hope that we all learn from their deaths and become even more productive people living life by design and on purpose. Be an agent of change in your family, community, and nation.

BEING THANKFUL AND GRATEFUL

Just yesterday I had the unique opportunity to recognize how thankful and grateful we all should be to live life. Many times we go throughout life expecting more and more instead of learning to be appreciative for what we have. It was just last week when I sat down and took another assessment of my life over the past year. Don’t be alarmed when you find yourself questioning how productive you have been. It’s a normal practice for me to do a self assessment on a weekly basis. Reflection, as I call it, is a very powerful tool for productive people. If used properly, reflection can propel you into a dimension that promotes maturity and growth.

Aren’t you glad that you are not the same person you use to be? Wow that in itself is something to be thankful and grateful for because most people are not happy with whom they are, much less whom they use to be. Let me make it plain, I am currently on a “90 Day Challenge” to lose 30 pounds in 90 days. Why you may ask because I am not happy with my current state of health. If I expect it to get better than I am going to have to do something about it. TAKE ACTION! I am thankful and grateful about the situation because I am in control and I have the opportunity to make the change that will affect my life.

Yesterday, when I turned on the news first thing in the morning there was talks of fires and mayhem in various locations. In the same day while driving down the road, I saw many accidents and incidents that could produce a negative outlook on life. Again, I begin to reflect and look over my life to see even when I wasn’t in the best situations (tired, unhealthy, financially stumped, unproductive, and even doubtful about choices I made in life) how simply being thankful and grateful changed my perspective and outcome.

I wanted to share 5 simple principles that help me to stay in the posture and position of being THANKFUL & GRATEFUL! For lack of better terms they help me to keep it 100.

1. Appreciate where you are.
2. Enjoy the moment!
3. Recognize change is available.
4. Show it with your actions.
5. Commit to repeating this cycle.

The scripture that can help as a biblical base would be

TARGETED

It’s time to get laser focused on the things we want in life. I am a firm believer that you will only get out what you put in. It is amazing how many people actually think that they can literally get something for nothing. You know people like that who have the “BURGER KING” mentality I want it my way… Well I have discovered that the only way you are going to accomplish that (having everything my way) is to be the creator. Sorry, but that job is not vacant!!! So with that in mind, I guess the next best thing is to get TARGETED.

Smile because it’s about to get worse :0);0);0) Now in order to get TARGETED and laser focused you are going to have to do a few things. I know that I am putting you to work early, but if you want results, you got to put in the work. Three quick things I want you to do today:

1. Ask yourself, if I could change something about me what would it be?

2. Ask yourself, are you willing to work for it? How hard? How long?

3. Ask yourself, can you see yourself there?

Today, almost seven hours ago I decided to execute the very same thing that I am sharing with you. I started a “90 Day Challenge” to lose 30 pounds over the next 90 days. This challenge will help me stay TARGETED on the goals that I set forth for my life. Why, because it’s my desire to live life on purpose and by design while maximizing my productivity. One of my goals is to live a long life and be around to enjoy my grandchildren. If this is going to be possible my Target must be to stay healthy… Simple but application is the key!

You are welcome to join me on a “90 Day Challenge “of your own. I am also a practicing believer of what I teach so would you be one of my accountability partners? There is NO obligation, fee, trick, or game to it! All I ask of you is to hold me accountable by dropping me a line or two to see how I am doing on my journey. Here are a few examples of questions that will help: Have you workout today? Are eating properly? Are you following your strategic plan? I am on facebook as live2produce, and Vernet Alin Joseph Jr. You can also tweet me as drvajoseph.

I am looking forward to making this challenge a success so if you would like to join me reply to this blog with what your “90 Day Challenge “ is and let’s get started. I am willing to help hold you accountable to reaching your goals and dreams. Remember stay laser focused as you live2produce.

There are so many great ways to accomplish what you want out of life. Getting laser focused is one of them. Check out my latest book “35 Insights To Live A Productive Life” on www.livetoproduce.com in it I share some outstanding insights that help guide me to productivity.

TAKE ACTION

Have you ever heard someone constantly talk about what they are going to do, but seems like they never arrive at that destination? I know at some point and time this may have even been you. Don’t shut me out just yet, as we all visit this place from time to time, we don’t have to stay there.

Well, today I want to address this issue because there seems to be a pandemic spreading across the nation with people talking loud, but not saying nothing. Some people are saying a lot, but their result bank is extremely low. In most cases it is screaming insufficient funds (NSF).
Today I challenged myself to commit to saying less and getting more done. I am committed to adhering to James 1:19 where it says “Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:” Because this is absolutely an essential key to my life as I strive daily to be more productive.

Over the last few days I have been conducting an in-depth self analysis of my journey through life. In doing so, I wanted to make sure that I tied up any loose ends that may hinder me from reaching and obtaining my goals of leaving a legacy for my family. This is something that I recommend for all of my clients, friends, and associates as it helps keep you grounded. As always, I live what I teach to others especially being transparent. I specifically wrote this blog to hold myself accountable as many people tell themselves they will follow through with things and it just doesn’t come to pass.

There are several things that you may want to evaluate in your life from time to time and I truly recommend it as it is good for the soul. Weather you desire to lose a few pounds, get discipline in your finances, strengthen your faith, get productive, or even go back to school here are three quick and easy action steps that you want to take.

1.TAKE ACTION NOW…
Don’t sit and wait for it to happen for you, I challenge you to go and get it. Whatever it is that you may want to take action in, promise yourself that you won’t procrastinate.

2.GET AN ACCOUNTABILITY PARTNER…
Someone you respect and will listen to. Sometime it’s good to put yourself on blast so that you receive all the help that you can get…

3.FINISH IT…
Whatever it takes, just getter done. Don’t allow yourself to quit, get tired, or start wondering should you keep going. If you started then have a finisher’s mentality.

I look forward to hearing how you are dealing with the areas of your life that you desire to take action in. There are so many great ways to accomplish what you want out of life. THE POWER IN PARTNERSHIP

Today, I am grateful and thankful to God for granting me the
privilege and honor to be married to my wonderful wife. She is the angel that my Father affords me the opportunity to walk on earth with. I call her my wife for life, my good thing, my better half, as she is what God uses to complete me.

Many would not agree with the above statements, but that is not
my concern because they reign true in my life. Throughout the years I have
learned a lot about life, marriage, relationships, success, and legacy to name a few, but there is one thing that remains constant and that is the Power in Partnership.

We are all put on this earth to live 2 produce and become an
agent of change in the world. Whether you are in a corporate, civil, or
domestic setting you will be effected by the Power in Partnership or the lack there of.

3 ESSENTIALS OF ENJOYING YOUR MARITAL PARTNERSHIP

I. KEEP IT FRESH AND INTERESTING
II. DON’T LET THE FLAME DIE OUT
III. COMMUNICATE EFFECTIVELY
IV. TRANSPARENCY

I want to dedicate this song by Shania Twain to my wife as it was
our wedding song many years ago. Honey I have not forgotten and will never
forget the power in our partnership. I am loving you always and for
life.

(I do swear that I'll always be there. I'd give anything and everything and I will always care. Through weakness and strength, happiness and sorrow,
For better or worse, I will love you with Every beat of my heart.)
From this moment life has begun From this moment you are the one
Right beside you is where I belong From this moment on

From this moment I have been blessedI live only for your happiness
And for your love I'd give my last breath From this moment on

I give my hand to you with all my heart Can't wait to live my life with you, can't wait to start You and I will never be apart My dreams came true
because of you

From this moment as long as I live I will love you, I promise you this
There is nothing I wouldn't give From this moment on

You're the reason I believe in love And you're the answer to my
prayers from up above All we need is just the two of us
My dreams came true because of you

From this moment as long as I live I will love you, I promise you this
From this moment I will love you as long as I live
From this moment on

EMBRACING THE PRODUCTIVITY WITHIN

Today, I sprang up with a yearning in my heart to accomplish
several things before noon. After giving time to my morning meditation and
reflection, I darted off to put my body through a rigorous physical workout. It is amazing what your body will afford you the opportunity to accomplish when you put your mind to it. Embracing the productivity within helps you to elevate procrastination and gives you the option of getting things done. Instead of making excuses like: I haven’t done this before or I can start this another day/time embracing productivity will cause you to say things like I accomplished it and that was easy.

Because I took the time to embrace the productivity within I was able to accomplish more this morning domestically than I had all week. I am a Southern boy living in the West and that within itself is a conundrum. I like cutting grass and having fruit trees in my back yard but I live in the desert go figure. Well today, after a nice workout I had the opportunity to organize my garage, clean my front yard, and enjoy the beauty of the day before most people got out of bed. To some this may seem to be nothing, but to others it is about staying fluid and being able to stay in what I like to call the “Productive Zone.”

As you go throughout the rest of your day today, take the time to seize every opportunity that arises for you to embrace the productivity within and you will appreciate the outcome. Never allow your productivity to be announced by others. Enjoy the journey of embracing the productivity within.

LIVING A PROGRESSIVE LIFESTYLE

Life is much life a puzzle. Just as there are several pieces that make up a puzzle there are many aspects of your life that must be nurtured and transformed to create that beautiful picture on the box. The four foundational areas in anyone’s life are family, faith, finances, and health. What are you doing to increase productivity in these areas? What are your goals concerning them and what principles will you apply to achieve them?

Personal growth is a mission that starts from within and is fueled by how hungry you are for transformation. ~ Dr. V.A. Joseph

Today, I want to challenge you to see things differently. Take a moment to write down what your current state of family, faith, finances, and health are right now. Imagine what you desire them to look like in 5 years and start taking the steps to get them there.

I talk to people all the time and tell them that life is a progressive movement. If you want something out of it than you are going to have to put something into to it. For many, WORK is a curse word and a foreign concept. There is a great Chinese proverb that says "Be not afraid of growing slowly; be afraid only of standing still." What am I saying? It is better to move an inch at a time towards your goals that to leap a mile into destruction ~ Dr. V.A. Joseph

Another great principle and life tip is that family is not handpicked, but God delivered. You don’t get to choose your parents, siblings, etc. This simply means that your family whether they are dysfunctional, crazy, or loving are part of your life. There are lessons to be learned about who you are and where you came from. "He that will not reflect is a ruined man." ~ Asian Proverb

Developing in faith is a lifestyle within itself. Faith causes you to see, say and do things that are not normal because you have been enlightened. The key is to make sure that you are connected to the source. There is nothing worse than appearing to be or have a connection that is not there. It’s similar to having a flat screen television mounted on a wall but no power running to it, or having a nice pool in the back yard without water in it. "To conquer oneself is the best and noblest victory; to be vanquished by one's own nature is the worst and most ignoble defeat." ~ Plato

How are you perceived in this world financially? You may not have exactly what you want, but you have enough to start. Your finances will change when you change the way you view your finances. Any place is a good place to start. "The way to gain a good reputation is to endeavor to be what you desire to appear." ~ Socrates

We have all heard the statement that says, “You are what you eat.” Your health is not simply how you eat, but it encompasses your physical, mental, and spiritual capacity. Anytime you have the ability to increase productivity in your health, you should make it happen. Don’t wait to start on Monday, implement it immediately because life is worth living. If you have an hour, will you not improve that hour, instead of idling it away?" ~ Lord Chesterfield

Accept the challenge issued to you today and make big things happen one small step at a time. Remember that its about taking the necessary steps to keep moving forward.the Eventually, you will see the big picture in this puzzle called life.

A DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE

Everything that is needed for you to survive in the game called life has been provided for you. The problem that many people face is how they see themselves verses where they are in life. I have come to understand that the true problem is that many are measuring themselves against other people, their social, economical, and marital status in life. The issue is that their focus is in the wrong direction.

Its time to shift the mindset and get a proper perspective on life! The adage of “it’s all about me” has to go away and the mentality of “how can I be effective in life” must replace it. Everyone was born with a talent, gift, and a special strength in a particular area. It is imperative to seek what the strength is that you possess and maximize it for the benefit of living your best life today. The more you reach out to help others the more successful you will become. Remembering that NO MAN is an island and that everyone needs somebody is essential to continued success.

Stop procrastinating, hesitating, and contemplating if you are going to make it in life! Theses are mere distractions that come to hold you back from reaching your maximum potential in life. Open your eyes wider and see the Champion in the mirror.

TODAY and everyday henceforth is a beautiful day to give reverence, honor, and respect to the Father for who He is. Enjoy yourself and the many wonderful blessings granted to you like friends, family, health, laughter, love, and strength. Never see the glass half empty... always praise for the provision provided.

Remember, life is all about PERSPECTIVE! How will you see things?

5 TIPS TO BOOSTING YOUR PRODUCTIVITY

I love to find ways to boost my productiveness! Here are 5 simple tips that I use to increase my productivity.

1. Remain accountable to someone and something.
2. Set a realistic schedule that causes me to stretch.
3. Establish small achievable goals that flow into my main goal.
4. Make sure my level of effort matches my desired outcome.
5. Follow-up and follow through with actions.

Remaining accountable to someone or something is a great way to stay on top of a task or project. It helps because you have someone or something outside of yourself reminding you of what you set out to accomplish. The very thing that you desire to accomplish may need to be posted all around you to remind you of your desire.

Setting a realistic schedule will assist you in seeing that productivity is within reach. The key is to not make it easy, but to cause you to have to stretch in order to accomplish the task. Many people like to set schedules that they know without effort they can achieve. This is simply mediocre and nobody pays for mediocre! Stretch yourself by charging yourself to make big things happen one step at a time. Always check your schedule to see if it brings you closer to the overall goal of productiveness.

Establish small achievable goals that flow into my main goal. This can be accomplished by putting thought and effort into your goals and scheduling. See the big picture the night before as you plan your next day. If you plan you will have a blueprint to where you destination. If you know where you desire to go you will always be able to tell if you are being side tracked.

Follow-up and follow through with action. There’s one thing that you can be certain of and that's if you put action to your thoughts you will be further along than when you started. In order to boost your productiveness, you are going to have to "DO" more than what you are thinking and saying. Yes, you will have to think it out, but o are going to have to put action to your thoughts.

“Get Connected” Networking in ATLANTA 26th May

This past Thursday, I had the distinct pleasure to be part of a great networking event put on by Autumn Essie Bailey Ford and her sponsors. The event was hosted at the luxurious 200 Peachtree Street located in the heart of downtown Atlanta. People from all over attended the networking event to make connections, start new business ventures, expand ongoing business, partner with others, and make affiliates to add value to one another.
“Get Connected” is Atlanta’s newest and grandest industry mixer open to anyone who is interested in pursuing a career in the entertainment industry, or who is established in their career. They are invited to attend and share knowledge, experiences and contacts, or to just have a great time.

As the COO of Gigaré, Inc., I traveled from Arizona to make this month’s networking mixer. It was the first “Get Connected” event that Gigaré, Inc has attended, but surely won’t be the last. Being born in Georgia it is always my pleasure to come back to Atlanta even when it is for business.

Marquez Hughley is the CEO and founder of Gigaré, Inc. He established Gigaré- A King’s Collection during his freshman year at Morehouse College in 4 months (from September 2008 – December 2008) from an idea to a tangible product. During his interview Marquez explains the names and meanings behind the neckties.

The actual idea for Gigaré – “A King’s Collection” was God-inspired, and given to me in September 2008 while studying for my Physical Science course. The vision was to start a Men's Business Professional / Casual Wear clothing line to induce a particular mindset and perspective of one’s own self-image and worth. Gigaré - “A King's Collection” is the brand’s name and slogan of the product sold. The name Gigaré means, “A billion, as pertaining to the worth.”

The atmosphere at Get Connected was so inviting. The live music played set a friendly tone as business men and women connected and had good conversation. The Jazz played by the saxophonist was soothing as he hit the keys and notes to excite our minds and take our breath away.

Celebrities like Tommy Ford (“Martin”), was in the house as he promoted his newest venture, My Portal TV. “Get Connected” is the place you want to be to network, share knowledge, experiences, contacts, and enjoy life the last Thursday of every month. Check out "Get Connected" on facebook and like the page.

WISDOM FROM 2011 B.E. ENTREPRENEURS CONFERENCE + EXPO

WISDOM FROM 2011 B.E. Entrepreneurs Conference Where Deals Are Made

It was both a pleasure and a honor to have attended the 16th annual Black Enterprise Entrepreneurs Conference + Expo, hosted by Nationwide Insurance. It was especially exciting to attend in Atlanta, as I am from Augusta, Georgia. It is always a pleasure to visit my birth state.

The conference was simply amazing, like….WOW; and, being able to meet and greet fellow entrepreneurs was exhilarating to say the least. As the COO of Gigaré, Inc. it was my first time attending a BE conference. I truly didn’t expect to walk away with so many great stories and experiences that build personal character, as well as starting new relationships and partnerships. My first thought was it was going to be so massive that it wouldn’t have a personal touch, and boy was I wrong! Meeting wonderful people who were so transparent and open really empowered me to see and better understand the true meaning of networking.

There were so many things that stood out in the conference that directly helped me as a young entrepreneur. I want to share a few of the nuggets of wisdom with you briefly:

1. Never allow yourself to think light, little, or low of your current situation, nor your future. For many of you with entrepreneurial ambitions, the job that you currently have is not going to be the job you retire from. Plan for your future and watch it unfold before your eyes; not because it’s magic, but because it is your expectation.

2. Believe in yourself; because if you don’t, nobody else will. I met some pretty amazing young business owners that are well worthy of the title “Teenpreneurs”. Check out “AJ’s Hawaiian Iceez, LLC. (www.ajsiceez.com). These two young men inspired me as being teenage corporate executives.

3. Stay disciplined and rooted in core principles that effectively promote development. Never place work above your family! Be a businessman or woman that has balance, order, and structure. Education is essential, not sequential! This is so because not everyone will take the same route in how they provide themselves an education. Be sure to learn from others mistakes. Study your craft, become knowledgeable, and apply principles that promote effectiveness, longevity, and legacy.

“Tie-Aways” from today’s blog.

Your expectations determine your destination. As President & CEO Earl G. Graves Jr. of Black Enterprise put it “If you have low expectations, you will meet those. If you have high expectations, you will meet those.”

I have always had high expectations of learning from and meeting some of the world’s great people of influence. Thank you Mr. Earl G. Graves Sr. and Mr. Earl G. Graves Jr. for setting such a great standard. Special thanks to Alfred Edmond Jr. and the entire staff at BE for all of your labor and efforts to present a classy event. Consider us in Arizona for 2013!

BREAKING OUT TO BREAK FORTH

Today, I want to let you in on a secret that has been brewing up in my heart for almost the last decade. This topic is near and dear to me because I recognize that so many people need to learn how to break out of their shells and allow themselves to release the extraordinary on the inside them. When you learn to release you increase in your freedom.

Have you ever sat down and taken an account of your life only to say that I am tired of getting caught up with the same old thing year after year? What about making promises to others, let alone yourself that you do not keep? That is what this blog is all about. I want everyone who has been through, going through, or coming out of this situation. There is a place in life called complacency which is where pursuit is put on suspension, passion is put on ice, and productivity is handcuffed.

The key to breaking out is recognizing the great potential on the inside of you to accomplish any and everything you set your mind too. Breaking out is symbolic to shattered glass, when glass breaks it crumbles into small pieces. The process is the same when dealing with your mentality, it takes little pieces like friends, family, mentors, coaches, and time to break out of the old that has held you captive. You have heard the old adage that “it takes a village to raise a child” sometimes this is true for other areas of life as well.

Learning to break out to break through is a matter of releasing to be free. If you are not ashamed to tell the truth many of us struggle in areas because of pride. Yes that little word that causes so much pain, chaos, and confusion can literally kill you.

If I can share four simple principles that will help you to break out of complacency in what ever area you may be being held back in they would be:

1. Recognize your need for deep meditation
2. Surround yourself with proven mentors
3. Take heed to the obvious signs
4. Apply the wisdom gained daily

A PIECE FROM THE LOVE POET

Coffee

In the morning waking you up
Can I be your cup of coffee
2 scoops to get you loose
turn it on and let it filter
in the pot we call the bedroom
A little warm water….sweat
Push your buttons let it bubble up

Pui je autre voitre vere
Can I be your vanilla in french
With 2 sugar cubes set to the side
As the aroma fills the room
Sip it down slowly…slowly
To the last drop on the veranda

Puedo sir tu taza
From the peaks of Columbia
To overflow your cup
One sip and your hooked on me with
Just enough caffeine to
Lick your lips and wet your hips

Can I be your Island blend from
The blue mountains of Jamaica
Inna your cup and stir it up
But on sip is not enough
You have to take 2 or 3
In the morning when you wake up
Can I be your cup of Coffee

To live or not to live- Make the decision

I have often heard the statement “To be or not to be” and for years I asked myself why would anyone ask or make this statement? Over the course of this past year I have learned that it is relevant at times to ask people, friends, and loved ones are they serious about doing, or being what they say they want to be or do. It is astounding the responses I have gotten from friends across the globe when I pose a similar question to live or not to live? This specific question rattles a lot of people because it forces them to make a decision.

Life is the best gift ever given to man. It is like a seed waiting to be nurtured and cultivated. The key to living life is deciding to take advantage of the opportunities that life has to offer. Look around you and see all the wonderful things that life brings and offers. Many people haven’t made the decision to live life. There is a great difference between existing and living. I have coined a phrase called L.I.F.E. which means living in full expectation. It’s a choice that one has to make and decide to act upon. No one can make the decision for you, but it is one that must be made if you ever plan to live a productive life.

Existing in life is simply being there with out any aspirations, dreams, or goals. To go through life without wanting to do better is against the Law of Life. Nobody wants to be part of something that isn’t doing anything.

Living life entails being on the edge of production. The Law of Life says that we are here to produce and take full advantage of surroundings. Everything was created for us to enjoy. Living involves purpose, passion, and productivity. This is what I called the three P’s to advancement and momentum.

Are you going to make the shift? It’s your choice to live or not to live- Make the decision.

The Value of Great Leadership

The word value is something that most people misunderstand just like the word leader or leadership. Value is the worth that you place on something or someone. The dictionary defines value as a relative worth, merit, or importance. How important is great leadership to you?

Recognizing that being a leader isn’t easy is one of the first steps to appreciating the value of great leadership. A leader is so many things in today’s society, a coach, advisor, motivator, instructor, etc. The value of great leadership is “priceless”! Leadership is the backbone to all successes and failures in life. Everything hinges off of it! Without it there is no direction, purpose, or plan.

Without great leadership people will be lost.

Without great leadership people will be distracted.

Without great leadership people will struggle unnecessarily.

Without great leadership people will walk around underdeveloped.

Without great leadership people will be confused and non- productive.

As a busy husband, father, military officer, leader, blogger, radio host, business man, and student I recognize the value of great leadership by recognizing that I need it to survive. Many people think it’s not possible, but with great leadership anything and everything is possible. You too can be successful in life when you attach the proper value to great leadership.

During my study of leadership I focused on how one could be effect and what it takes to do so, but there are so many other aspects to leadership and I want to encourage you to increase your library with authors such a John Maxwell, Larry Bossidy, Stephen Covey, and Jim Collins.

As a father, I have learned so much from my daughters on how to be effective in leadership. Simply do what you say, say what you mean and care by helping others achieve better in life.

The Characteristics of Successful Leadership

Last week we discussed the two types of people in this world as it relates to leadership. There are those who want to be led and then there are those who desire to lead. We also discussed a few of the secrets of effective leadership. We talked about the visionary style of leadership and how it sees the big picture for the long haul. The key to this and all types of leadership is to be able to communicate clearly & concisely to those they lead.
Today, I want to deal with the characteristics of successful leadership. In life we must know and understand when to make changes and shifts that will affect the bottom line which is the overall goal of a leader.
A leader must be bold, adaptable, and willing to experience new things if they desire to effectively lead others. The traits of team building are essential to being a successful. The following characteristics are not the only characteristics of successful leadership, but have proven to be most effective in the last twenty years.

The practice of progressively getting better at being:
A Listener- one who observes and deciphers the thought, intent, or action of others

Being compassionate- a person who places interest in others

A Learner- availing yourself to be a student that is teachable

Appreciative – thankful, thoughtful, grateful, and respectful

Selfless Contributor- giving of yourself and adding value to others without being the spotlight

Effective Communicator-speaking with the intent of being understood

Guide/ Instructor – to influence and navigate others to achieve better

Attitude of a Winner- learning to win with others (delegation with winning in mind)

SECRETS OF LEADERSHIP

Today, I want to talk to you about a topic that is near and dear to my heart LEADERSHIP! Leadership is a necessity to everyone in life whether it is being led by one, learning how to be one, or being a leader of leaders. The art of leadership in its simplest form is to motivate and influence others to do what needs to be done. Leadership is a part of our everyday life which effect things like time management, organization, communication, discipline, and ultimately success.

I have found that there are two types of people in this world when it comes to leadership. The first type is the people who want to be led. These are the people who have the ability to follow the instruction and direction of others and are comfortable in assisting to get what they know needs to be done. They are not bothered by not being out front and in charge. They accept the rule or realm of authority that is given to them and enjoy seeing the project come together by accomplishing their piece of the puzzle. They have no desire to be responsible for others but accept responsibility for their own actions. The second type is those people who desire to lead others. This group of people is the dreamers and they desire to see others reach their maximum potential. They have the ability to see the potential in people and desire to draw it out of them. This is achieved by motivating and influencing them to do what needs to be done while focusing their attention on their ability to effectively accomplish the task.

As a military officer, I have experienced some great leaders as well as some not so great leaders on their road in this leadership journey. First, I would like to say that not everyone is cut out for leadership. I would also like to dispel the myth that position makes you a leader. It is very simple to measure yourself against the two types of people as it pertains to leadership. One thing is for sure despite feelings and emotions you are one or the other NO EXCEPTIONS!

It takes a visionary to be a leader! What does that mean? A visionary is one who sees the big picture. Visionary leaders provide long-term direction and vision by being clear and concise. This is the golden secret to every leadership style is being (Clear & Concise). The secret to it is sharing, entrusting others, and being open and transparent as to what you see. This helps those who are being led to buy into the concept of accomplishing the task by utilizing their skills, talents, and abilities to do so.

Here are a few secrets of leadership that I have learned over the last two decades.

Being approachable (Having an openness that allows your people to have meaningful dialogue without repercussion)

Being teachable (Accepting the fact that you are not the end all meet all on every subject and that you can learn from anyone)

Knowing who you have on your team and placing them in the right position. (Visionary, Speaker, Thinker, Doer)

Developing your people to be their best and do their best within their abilities. (Helping people to reach their maximum potential by expanding their capabilities)

Being disciplined in your actions (Operate at level worth following)

LET’S TALK RELATIONSHIP’S (MARRIAGE)

Over the years the topic of relationships has always been a big issue. People have always seemed to have different views on the matter especially when it comes to the big M word called marriage. What is marriage? Is it a life long commitment? How do men view it? Why do women see it different than men?

These are just a few questions that come to mind when I hear the topic and the most frequently asked about when I speak with people around the world.

Marriage is God’s institution created to exemplify the love and commitment between a man and a woman. It is intended for a life time as indicated in Mark 10:8 and they two shall be one flesh: so then they are no more two, but one flesh. Matt 19:5 for this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife. These are basic instructions for mankind to follow before leaving the earth (Bible).

Men view marriage and love in a totally different light then women just as in the book men are from Mars and women are from Venus. Most men look at marriage as an experience where as women view it as a journey. Women are more emotional creatures than men. This is why we complete one another.

A WINNER'S BLUEPRINT

In Life there will always be right and wrong, great and horrible, a winner and a loser. No one wants to fail or starts out with failure in mind! Everyone is looking to have achievements and become successful. Many people have asked the question what am I not doing that if I change will help me to get where I desire to be? The true question is, what type of blueprint do you have and how are you working it?

I have decided to work a principle that I created called “do it right the first time”. What does it mean? It sounds a bit arrogant and almost impossible. There is a saying in the bible that there is nothing new under the sun. Well it is true! Everything that is done has been done before we just have to learn when and how? It comes from studying your craft and surrounding yourself with the right type of people. Well who determines the right type of people? You do of course! If you want to be a doctor, do you surround yourself with entertainers and athletes to achieve your goals or do you find like-minded people who can encourage and provoke you to achieve your goals and dreams?

A Winners Blueprint is derived from the principle of “doing it right the first time”. This simple principle can be used in every area of your life if you follow the blueprint. The blueprint is set on these three foundational pillars.

I. Decide that you want to win.
II. Commit to the preparation and dedication needed for the victory.
III. Succeed by devoting yourself to the cycle of productivity.

How does it work? The first thing you have to do is develop a vision for whatever it is you desire to accomplish. Despite the area in your life that you desire change in you will never change it until you get a clear vision of what you want it to change to or look like. The key is to start with the something that you saw and then build towards it. STOP! At this point you are merely in the writing process. Make sure you understand that this is a process (a marathon and not a sprint). After you have developed your vision and written it out as far as you possibly can, now it is time for the next phase. Seek the wisdom and knowledge from others who are knowledgeable in the areas it will take to accomplish what you saw. Learning from those who are wiser than you in a particular field is the next phase as you glean from the counsel and the relationship you develop with them you will notice that your surroundings and knowledge base starts to broaden. Now once you begin to get a better understanding you move into the next phase called application. Application is simply applying that which you learned from those who assisted you in the process. Here is the best part of it all which is the last phase of the blueprint called transfer. Transfer is when you take all that you learned and become a distributor of wise counsel from your experiences.

The cycle of productivity is to start, continue, and finish by seeing it through.

ASSESSMENT OF A BETTER YOU

In the last 11 days of the New Year many people have asked themselves how can I do better. What am I going to focus on this year that will help me have a more challenging and productive life? I want to share with you that a better you has always been available. The true question is will you let that person out.

In order to see the new you there are five simple things that you are going to have to evaluate about yourself. This can be a simple or very complicated exercise depending on how honest you are willing to be with yourself. The first step is to sit back and meditate on who you think you are. The second step is to write down your best attributes, then your worst. The third step is to ask at least five of your friends what they see your best and worst attributes are without having to worry about any drama.

Check to see if there are any attributes that have been duplicated among the answers you have collected including yours. After you have evaluated the top five in each category set out in your mind that you will work on each attribute daily. That was the easy part! Now it’s time to make the commitment to yourself that will change your course for the rest of the year.

Evaluate yourself in these five areas and see where you stand. What do you think and what are other people saying about you in these areas. Remember this is a “me” exercise that will only benefit you if you let it. After answering these simply questions make a commitment that you will make a conscious effort to change for the better.

Trustworthiness
Respect
Responsibility
Fairness
Compassion

Trustworthiness
What do people say about your integrity? Are you a promise keeper? Do your words line up with your actions? If you were someone else could you trust yourself?

Respect
How well do treat people, family, friends, and strangers? Do you play well with others? How do you act when no one is looking?

Responsibility
Are you accountable to someone for your actions? Do you take life seriously? Can you say that you are a prudent person?

Fairness
Do you exercise consistency in all that you do and make sure that you avoid favoritism and taking advantage of others?

Compassion
How do you rate your level of kindness, caring, and empathy towards others and the issues of life?

If the exercise helps you contact me on facebook at live2produce and tell me all about your experience. Remember this is for those who truly desire bigger and better out of their lives.

5 PIVOTAL AREAS OF LIFE TO FORTIFY

In 2011 there are 5 major areas that I would like to focus on. It is extremely important that a shift in mentality, thoughts, and actions take place in the first 30 days of this year. The very first thing that needs to be dealt with is the expectations for the year. Expectations for 2011 can not be the same as last year if things are going to be different.

According to Albert Einstein “doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results is Insanity.” This is the truth and it’s time to recognize the difference. He also states “We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.”

This year let’s do things differently so we can achieve our goals, dreams, and expectations. Below are the 5 pivotal areas that can help change your life if you fortify them in 2011.

Health- Learn how to eat to live and not live to eat.
Finance- Learn how to make what you have last.
Relationships- Treating people like people and not property.
Mental Toughness- Learn what it takes to survive and thrive.
Physical Conditioning- Developing a new you to make it through.
